Welcome to our home! Here are a few tips for your stay
WiFi: SSID JMH-Guest and Password jamesmatthews107
Lights: The switch next to the door marked with this light bulb sticker controls the floor lamp on the left side of the bed. The hallway light is controlled by the switch outside of Room 203, marked with the same sticker
Overhead Fan: The switch next to the light switch controls the overhead fan.
“0” = Off, “1” = High, “2” = Medium, “3” = Low
TV: The Kindle remote operates the TV
Heating/Cooling: The unit that vents out the window can be used for both heating and cooling. You can control it with the remote or directly on the unit. You can toggle between 4 modes:
In Cool mode, the compressor runs and cools the room. Use the ∧/∨ and Fan Speed buttons to set the desired temperature and fan speed
Dry mode removes humidity from the room without additional cooling. The fan speed is preset and cannot be adjusted
Fan mode circulates air but the compressor does not run. Use the Fan Speed button to set the desired fan speed to either High or Low
In Heat mode, the compressor runs and heats the room. Use the ∧/∨ and Fan Speed buttons to set the desired temperature and fan speed
Breakfast and snacks: Grab and go breakfast items, coffee and tea, and snacks are always available in the dining room (the room where you first entered the house). There are also drinks and yogurt in the mini fridge
Plates & bowls, glasses & mugs, utensils, and pans for the toaster oven are available for you to use – please let us know if you have trouble finding anything!
**Please do not open the china cabinets next to the fireplace. The dishes in the cabinets are for display only
In addition to the Keurig coffee machine in the dining room, there is a Nespresso machine outside of Rooms 201 & 202
Refrigerators: In addition to the fridge in the dining room, there is a mini fridge outside of Rooms 201 & 202 (also stocked with drinks for you to enjoy). You may store your own food and drinks in either of these mini fridges, but because they are shared with other guests, we recommend that you label your food so that another guest doesn’t accidentally take it! If for any reason you require more refrigerator space than what is available, let us know and we’ll show you how to access the refrigerator in the basement
Food recommendations: Here are a few of our favorite spots jamesmatthewshouse.com/restaurant-recommendations
Laundry: If you need to do laundry, let your hosts know, and we will show you how to access the basement laundry facilities
Gardens: We welcome you to enjoy the yard and gardens. We have vegetable and herb gardens, a rain garden, and we are building up our native plants all over to attract and support more pollinators and birds. There are hammocks and chairs back there for you to use – let your hosts know if they aren’t set up and/or if you need additional chairs. If you’d like to enjoy the firepit, let us know, and we’ll get a fire going!
Parking: We typically recommend that guests take advantage of the free street parking on our block. We live across from schools, so there is typically plenty of street parking available in the evening, on weekends, and throughout the summer.
**Please note that there is street cleaning on our block on Monday mornings 9am-11am from April 1 through November 30, and parking is not permitted during that window
Please let your hosts know if you need recommendations for where to park your car during that window. Please also let us know if you would prefer off-street parking- we can usually make our driveway available for an additional fee
Security cameras: There are security cameras outside of our home (e.g., on the front porch, back of house and garage) as well as a few inside (e.g., in the dining room pointed outside/at the main entrance and stairs to our private space on the 3rd floor). Security cameras are for your and our peace of mind! We don’t have any hidden cameras, and there certainly aren’t cameras in guest rooms!!
Check-out: Check-out is at 11am
