Welcome to our home! Here are a few tips for your stay
WiFi: SSID JMH-Guest and Password jamesmatthews107
Lights: The switch next to the door marked with this light bulb sticker controls the lamp on the desk. The hallway light is controlled by the switch outside of Room 203, marked with the same sticker
Overhead Fan: The switch next to the light switch controls the overhead fan.
“0” = Off, “1” = High, “2” = Medium, “3” = Low
TV: The Kindle remote operates the TV
Cooling: During the warm months, a window AC unit is installed in the room’s side window. The unit is set to cool in eco mode, but you have the option to change the temperature, remove the eco setting or switch to Dry or Fan only modes. When you are away from the room, either switch back to eco mode at a higher temperature or turn it off.
Heating: The house is heated by a steam boiler and radiators. Unlike water boilers, steam radiators balance the heat, so it’s common for only some of the radiator coils to get hot. Because of this heat balancing, DO NOT close the valve on the radiator to adjust the heat. Instead, use the dial on the bottom of the steam vent (pictured), located on the radiator, opposite the valve. To reduce the heat, turn the bottom dial to a lower number or turn it in the opposite direction to increase the heat.

Use the dial on the radiator steam vent to control the heat in your room
Shared bathroom: The bathroom is located across from Room 203 and is shared with guests in that room. Additional clean towels are available in a basket outside of the bathroom if you need extras.
Breakfast and snacks: Grab and go breakfast items, coffee and tea, and snacks are always available in the dining room (the room where you first entered the house). There are also drinks and yogurt in the mini fridge
In addition to the Keurig coffee machine in the dining room, there is a Nespresso machine outside of Rooms 201 & 202
Refrigerators: In addition to the fridge in the dining room, there is a mini fridge outside of Rooms 201 & 202 (also stocked with drinks for you to enjoy). You may store your own food and drinks in either of these mini fridges, but because they are shared with other guests, we recommend that you label your food so that another guest doesn’t accidentally take it! If for any reason you require more refrigerator space than what is available, let us know and we’ll show you how to access the refrigerator in the basement

Laundry: If you need to do laundry, let your hosts know, and we will show you how to access the basement laundry facilities
Gardens: We welcome you to enjoy the yard and gardens. We have vegetable and herb gardens, a rain garden, and we are building up our native plants all over to attract and support more pollinators and birds. There are hammocks and chairs back there for you to use – let your hosts know if they aren’t set up and/or if you need additional chairs. Also, if you’d like to enjoy the firepit, tell us and we’ll get a fire going.
Parking: We typically recommend that guests take advantage of the free street parking on our block. We live across from schools, so there is typically plenty of street parking available in the evening, on weekends, and throughout the summer.
**Please note that there is street cleaning on our block on Monday mornings 9am-11am from April 1 through November 30, and parking is not permitted during that window
Please let your hosts know if you need recommendations for where to park your car during that window. Please also let us know if you would prefer off-street parking- we can usually make our driveway available for an additional fee
Security cameras: There are security cameras outside of our home (e.g., on the front porch, back of house and garage) as well as a few inside (e.g., in the dining room and stairs to our private space on the 3rd floor). Security cameras are for your and our peace of mind! We don’t have any hidden cameras, and there certainly aren’t cameras in guest rooms!!
Check-out: Check-out is at 11am
